The basis of calculations for arc flash hazard levels, equipment evaluation and other power system studies is the calculation of the short circuit values. The short circuit values are the maximum, i.e. worst case current that could flow during a fault on your power system. It is critical that these values be determined correctly not only for the calculations of the arc flash hazards, equipment evaluation, etc. but so that you don’t over emphasize the hazards. Many companies assume a worst case short circuit at the utility service and this is not a good engineering practice in that it could seriously overestimate the arc flash hazards in your facility, etc. Titan QPS has the experience to assist you with correctly determining your short circuit values within your system and further to properly run additional power systems studies that rely on this data as the basis.
